If you’ve ever had a conversation with me about my views on my choice to look at life through a non monogamous mindset you’ve probably heard me say, “I really like non monogamy because I am pretty jazzed on doing the opposite of what I’m supposed to to.”
As I was working on my thesis for my graduate degree I kept finding information that pointed to the invention of monogamy being a relationship structure that was pushed by a new ideal in OWNING things. (Please read Sex at Dawn if you’re curious to know more. It’s incredibly interesting!) Historically, this push was done by the men in power. Men who wanted to own their wives — more specifically men who wanted to own their wives’ wombs.
Now, I do not believe the monogamy is a bad choice— it is merely my goal to have people start questioning WHY they are so, SO ready to start defending it when they really haven’t taken the time to understand the historical significance or the modern day statistics of monogamy.
It is this vehement defense of monogamy that I see my role— educating the masses. Whether it’s through posts on Twitter, workshops on learning what non monogamy really is, or through coaching my clients how to unlearn all of the societal shame there is in trying to practice non monogamy. It is my goal to have less people jumping to defend or choose monogamy as THE ONLY CHOICE THERE IS.
